Crochet and Christianity at Fairy Valley

Creativity, patience and practical skills came together during a recent engagement with Fairy Valley Wesleyan Holiness Church, where young participants were introduced to the art of crochet as part of the church’s Vacation Bible School programme.

Following an invitation from the church, we facilitated two interactive crochet sessions held on Monday, July 14 and Tuesday, July 15. The sessions welcomed participants between the ages of 10 and 20.

The workshop introduced beginners to the fundamentals of crochet in a fun, encouraging and hands-on environment. During the first session, participants learned how to make a foundation chain, the starting point for every crochet project. On the second day, they built on those skills by learning the single crochet stitch, giving them the confidence to begin creating simple projects independently.

We provided all of the materials required, including crochet hooks, yarn, scissors, measuring tapes and beginner crochet books.

The workshops offered more than an introduction to a new craft. They created a welcoming space for creativity, confidence building and fellowship, with participants encouraging one another as they learned each new stitch. Elaine”s also donated “Living Water”,  New Testament and “Why Jesus” books to the participants.

We extend our sincere thanks to Fairy Valley Wesleyan Holiness Church for inviting us to be part of its Vacation Bible School programme and for recognising the value of teaching practical, creative skills to young people. We look forward to continuing this partnership and expanding opportunities to share the joy of crochet while strengthening community connections through the work we do.
