Elaine’s Donates to Future Fibre Artists at Stanley Jon Odlum TVET School

Elaine’s Caribbean Crochet recently continued its mission to empower and inspire young creatives by making a special donation to the St. Lucia TVET Institute: Stanley Jon Odlum School of Arts, Media, and Design in Marigot, Saint Lucia. The donation, which included yarn and crochet hooks, was presented to students in the CVQ Textile and Fibre class led by Ms. Michelle Theobalds.  The donation will help to support their learning and hands-on exploration of fibre arts.

Students received hands-on instruction, where they learned basic techniques and creative approaches to working with yarn. The demonstration sparked discussions as Nikisha Toppin shared insights into the social enterprise journey — from building a sustainable craft-based business to exploring the wide range of opportunities available in the textile and fibre industries. Students were encouraged to think beyond traditional crafting, envisioning how their skills could evolve into entrepreneurial ventures or contribute to the growing creative economy.

During the interactive session, students also shared their own aspirations and spoke about the businesses they are already pursuing. This exchange of ideas created a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere, making the experience both educational and enjoyable for everyone involved.

The visit built on the momentum of Crochet for a Cause Saint Lucia, an initiative hosted by Elaine’s in September 2024, which aimed to use crochet as a tool for creativity, community building, and positive impact. By following up with this school engagement, Elaine’s continues to invest in nurturing future talent and showing young people that fibre art is not only a creative outlet but also a pathway to empowerment and opportunity.
