Elaine’s Caribbean Crochet recently had the privilege of engaging with students at The Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) as part of a collaborative initiative with the Polytechnic Christian Fellowship.
The visit formed part of a Passion Talk, where students were encouraged to explore the intersection of creativity, purpose, and faith. What made the experience especially impactful was the organic setting in which it unfolded within a live classroom session led by Elaine’s Founder, Nikisha Toppin.
Students learned a practical skill but were also invited into a deeper conversation about passion, how it is discovered, nurtured, and ultimately aligned with faith.

Nikisha shared her personal journey, highlighting how crochet evolved from a simple craft into a purpose-driven enterprise. Her message centered on the idea that passion is most fulfilling when it intersects with faith, when talents are used as instruments of impact and service.
Special acknowledgment is extended to Ms. Kellie Herbert, Ms. Chandie Alleyne, Head of the Human Ecology Division, for her leadership and openness to integrating this experience into the academic space. Appreciation is also given to Miss Margaret Worrell for welcoming the session into her classroom at such a pivotal teaching moment, who had just begun teaching crochet techniques.
The overarching goal of the session was clear. It was to encourage students to recognize both the reality of knowing Christ and the significance of inviting Him into their personal and professional journeys. It is our hope that each student walked away with a renewed perspective.
