Elaine’s Caribbean Crochet was honored to participate in the recent UN House Tour held on September 9th, 2025, where students from McGill University and the University of the West Indies (UWI) were hosted.

The event provided a unique opportunity for young people to gain firsthand insight into the work being carried out by organizations across Barbados, particularly those making a positive impact on communities and the environment.
As one of the participating grantees, Elaine’s Caribbean Crochet shared the vision and impact of the Crochet for a Cause: Ridge to Reef initiative, which connects creativity, sustainability, and community development.
Students learned how crochet is being used as a craft and tool for raising awareness about climate resilience and coral reef conservation. Elaine’s highlighted the growth of the programme, which has already expanded its reach beyond Barbados to Saint Lucia and Grenada, building regional networks of artisans and advocates.
The UN House Tour created a space for networking and potential collaboration. Participation in this tour reaffirmed the importance of sharing our story with the next generation of leaders.

As a special touch, Elaine’s also provided crochet replicas to students as giveaways for completing the interactive fill-in-the-blank handout, creating a fun and memorable way to connect with the initiative.
We are proud to have been part of this experience and grateful to the UNDP and its partners for providing a platform to showcase the impact of local projects making a global difference.
